Review 02 - MunKeong & SuetBeng (From Malaysia)
"Once again, thank you very much for one of the most memorable trips of our lives."
Hi Ashad,
We had only a very short time in Sri Lanka, 2 full days and 2 nights, but we felt as though we experienced the full extent of Sri Lanka's beauty and hospitality in these short 2 days.
Day 1:
We had arranged the details of the tour before our arrival in Sri Lanka. Upon arrival on the first day, our guide Mr. Shamril met us at the Colombo airport early in the morning and we headed towards Kandy. Along the way, he told us everything about Sri Lanka possible ranging from history, economy, geography, politics, sports, a fun and easy crash course on Sri Lanka! We stopped halfway for a scrumptious and very affordable breakfast of "hoppers" with dhal & curry & sambal and Sri Lankan tea.
From there we went to see an 80+ year old Elephant names Raja, and then to Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. It was an amazing experience as we had the opportunity to ride on elephants and bathe them as well! After that was a Herbal garden in the near vicinity where we learn about the Ayuvedic Herbal remedies for different kinds of illness and cosmetic purposes as well! Along the highway, Shamril even treated us to "thambili" - the king coconut and it was refreshing and oh SO YUMMY!
Lunch was at Kandy and from there we passed Kandy's bustling town centre, and headed to the "Temple of the Holy Tooth", followed by watch a very impressive cultural dance show in the evening. Then, we went up to the "peak" of Kandy to take some photos of the beautiful night scenery. That night, we wanted to meet up with our friend who lives in the outskirts of Kandy, and were ready to take a 3-wheeler from the hotel. But Shamril insisted on sending us there for our safety and we were really relieved that he was there to guide us as the roads were pretty bumpy and there was insufficient streetlights. Even our Sri Lankan friends were surprised with Shamril's sense of responsibility and dedication and they said we were blessed to have such a good and friendly guide.
Day 2:
Next morning we started the day at Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and was amazed by the collection of flowers and plants. It so happened to be an auspicious day for the Sri Lankans and we witnessed quite a few couples taking their wedding pictures in the Garden. It was a pleasant way to observe how the locals spend their time on a weekend.
Then we went to a Gem factory to learn how gems are mined and cut. The Sri Lankan blue sapphire stole the show and was absolutely stunning. From there Shamril took us back to his home for more yummy thambili, and then we headed out to Rambode tea plantations. We passed by many small towns on the way and the sight was lovely indeed!
At the tea factory, we had another delicious Sri Lankan meal, and then the guide took us through the tea factory. We learn about the different teas - black, green, white tea, and how they are processed from tea leaves, and then taken to Colombo to be auctioned. We bought some local tea before heading back.
Back at Kandy, Shamril invited us back again to his home where his lovely wife served us with Sri Lankan tea and short eats. Shamril's children welcomed us openly and we thoroughly enjoyed the warm hospitality and genuine friendship offered to us even though we were strangers in their land.
In the evening, Shamril took us shopping for souveneirs, and then we were off to Colombo.
Day 3:
We headed off to the airport for our flight back to Malaysia.
Ashad, I think the main reason we enjoyed the tour by Miracle Sri Lanka was mainly because of Shamril. He was wonderful tour guide who really made the effort to attend to our needs. He seemed tireless and doesn't seem to need sleep/rest/food, like superman =) He offered us his & his family's friendship without reserve, and really made us feel at home and welcomed. He was very knowledgeable and experienced and shared with us many interesting stories that made travelling time fly past.
In fact we believe that this excellent service is a the culture of your company as Shamril talked much about your company. We will most definitely recommend your company's services to friends and family should they be travelling to Sri Lanka in the future.
Once again, thank you very much for one of the most memorable trips of our lives.
Best regards, MunKeong & SuetBeng 10th March 2010 (From Malaysia)
